No person is any one thing

One of the greatest lessons of my life has been learning that no person is any one thing and that we are more alike in our dreams and desires than we are different.

Someone can fight for equal rights and be a poor father or mother. Some one can be a great teacher and still be a liar. Some one can be a politician who fights for the rights of the underprivileged and can still be corrupt.

Some one can be a misogynist and still be a good friend. Someone can be a racist and still be a good husband. Someone can be politically conservative and still care about people.

In the end we all want to live up to our self-image, and feel guilt about our sometimes falling short. We all want to support our families financially and emotionally. We all want to belong and feel loved. We are all trying to find our way.

If we seek to understand all the facets of an individual, not only do they become more human, but we become more human. I urge all of us to not fall pry to the easy road and judge a person by the facet of a person as it is presented to us, both good and bad. Seek to understand the person and the truth of life will expose itself.
